The druids have gathered and Moonglade is aglow. Those dressed as dragons are sure to delight, let’s honor our elders and put up a good fight. 2020 is the Year of the Rat so grab some cheese and settle in for this year’s fun is about to begin! This year’s Lunar Festival begins on January 24th and will wrap up on February 7th. For a complete overview of the event please feel free to review WoWHead.com’s guide.

New for 2020
There is a new quest chain available this year for those that want to make their flower crowns transmogable year-round. The Lunar Preservation quest chain is a bit involved. While you can pick up this quest chain at pre-flight levels, from what our testers are saying it will be extremely difficult without it. At some of the moonwell locations you’ll need to visit there could be some mobs you’ll need to deal with as well. Overall looks like a fun questline but perhaps not exactly challenger friendly and might be best left to your regular characters.

The following information is for the Iron Man Challenge. For information on the other challenge variants please see below.

Quests
All of the quests for this event are ALLOWED. That being said there are a few things to make note of:
– The quest Elune’s Blessing asks you to defeat the demon Omen. This is a dangerous endeavor for challengers and just because a quest is allowed does not always mean it is a good idea. You are NOT ALLOWED to group up with others to complete this quest. Based on comments on WoWHead you do not need to get kill credit to complete this quest. After he dies you can get close to or stand on his corpse and you should be able to get Elune’s Blessing to complete the quest. Once this quest is turned in you need to remove Elune’s Blessing ASAP!

– The Lunar Preservation questline may be better left to non-challenge characters.

Honor Thy Elders
Scattered throughout Azeroth you’ll come across elders of years gone by. You can honor them simply by talking to them. In return, you’ll receive a Lucky Red Envelope and a Coin of Ancestry along with some experience points. Remember that you may need to locate Zidormi and ask her to turn back time in order to interact with some elders depending on your level as some zones have phasing changes at key levels. This activity is ALLOWED. WoWHead has you covered with a list of Elder locations which you can find here.

Inside the Lucky Red Envelopes, you’ll find an Elder’s Moonstone or a Lucky Rocket Cluster. The Elder’s Moonstone has no bells or whistles and is ALLOWED. The Lucky Rocket Clusters are another matter. Setting these rockets off in the rocker cluster launchers will give you the Lunar Fortune buff which is NOT ALLOWED. Please be aware that if you are within 20 yards of someone setting this rocket off the buff will be applied to you. Should this happen it needs to be removed ASAP!

Cosmetics, Pets, & Toys
The Coins of Ancestry that you have received from the elders can be used to purchase items from the event’s vendors located in Moonglade. You are ALLOWED to obtain all of the pets and toys. Please remember that while you are allowed to acquire the pets you are NOT ALLOWED to participate in any pet battles. As far as cosmetic items are concerned please remember to follow your gear rules.

Festival Dumplings are also available from the vendors in Moonglade. This special treat will restore both health and mana and does not have any buffs so these are very challenger friendly. You will need Coins of Ancestry to purchase them.

Tin Man
All of the event’s quests are ALLOWED.
You do not need to remove Elune’s Blessing after quest turn in since non-XP buffs are ALLOWED for you.

– The Lunar Preservation questline may be better left to non-challenge characters.

You are ALLOWED to honor your elders. When doing so you’ll receive Lucky Red Envelopes and Coins of Ancestry along with some experience points. These envelopes will contain Elder’s Moonstones or Lucky Rocket Clusters.
Elder’s Moonstones are ALLOWED.
– The Lunar Fortune buff gained from using the Lucky Rocket Clusters is ALLOWED.

You are ALLOWED to enjoy some Festival Dumplings.

You are ALLOWED to obtain the cosmetic items, toys, and pets but do remember to follow your gear rules, remove any buffs toys might give you that are NOT ALLOWED and no pet battles.

Once this quest is turned in you need to remove the Elune’s Blessing buff ASAP! Please be mindful there will be LOTS of other players around and there will be a greater risk of getting a prox kill. The halls have been decked, and garlands abound. The excitement is building all around. Great Father Winter will bring gifts that delight! We’ll feast and be merry and have snowball fights! We’ll gather together as we sit by the fire, regaling stories and sharing hot apple cider.

The Feast of Winter Veil has begun and will run through 6 AM on January 2nd. WoWHead has a full overview of the event which can be found here.

The following information is for the Iron Man Challenge. For information on the challenge variants please see below.

New for 2019
There are a couple of new things this year. One of those being A Tiny Winter Hat. This item is obtained by visiting the Smokeywoods Pastures cart in either Ironforge or Orgrimmar and clicking on Pepe. As of this moment, the item is not on the live servers but an official Blizzard post said it was new this year. Perhaps it will get hot fixed at some point during the event. At this time, this item has NOT been tested. If this item does get added in during the event, consider it NOT ALLOWED until we’ve had the chance to test it. Once tested we’ll update the post on the final answer.

Another new thing added in this year is sleigh rides around Ironforge and Orgrimmar. You can find the sleighs near where Greatfather Winter is located. It looks like you can ride in the sleigh or on one of the stags pulling it. No buffs are incurred and this is just a fun, silly holiday activity. This is ALLOWED.

Quests & Daily Quests
There are several quests and daily quests available during this event that you are allowed to complete. While you are allowed to complete them here are a few things to make note of:
– The quests Treats for Great-father Winter(H) and Treats for Greatfather Winter(A) involve cooking. You are NOT ALLOWED to learn cooking for this quest, however, you can buy the gingerbread cookies needed off the Auction House if any have been listed. The milk can be bought from vendors.
– The quests You’re a Mean One…(H) and You’re a Mean One…(A) involve retrieving Stolen Treats from The Abominable Greench. Once he has been slain the stolen goods spawn at the entrance of his cave. You do NOT need to kill the Greench in order to be able to snag the gifts when they spawn in. It is recommended that challengers keep a safe distance from this boss as there is a good chance he’ll one-shot your challenger. This quest may only be available to players level 60 and up as indicated by a post from Blizzard.

For challengers that have upgraded their garrisons to level 3 and are level 100 or higher, an additional 4 holiday daily quests will become available. These can be picked up in your garrisons from either Almie(A) or Pizzle(H).
– The quest Grumpus involves killing him and you must tag him to get credit. This quest may be too dangerous to bother with. When in doubt, scout it out.

Warlords Savage Gift
The Savage Gift is obtained from Izzy Hollyfizzle who is located in your level 3 garrison. The gift can be purchased for 5 Merry Supplies and may contain the following items:
Apexis Crystals
Oil
Garrison Resources
Elixir of the Rapid Mind (NOT ALLOWED)
Medallion of the Legion
Frozen Arms of a Hero
Minion of Grumpus

Catching Greatfather Winter
At Highmountain Peak in the Highmountain zone, you can find a Highmountain Tauren version of Greatfather Winter. At the top of every hour, he’ll spawn near Frosthoof Watch and travel down Hightmountain Peak in a sled being pulled by a couple of Winter Elderhorns. When you catch up with him, he’ll award you 500 Order Resources.

Festive Fun
The following festive items can be obtained during this event by /kissing a winter reveler once an hour. These revelers can be found in the inns:
Fresh Holly
Handful of Snowflakes
Mistletoe
The Mistletoe is the main item you need to be careful with here. When used on another player it places a spirit buff on them. It does not look like you can place this on yourself however should another player use this on you remove it immediately since the buff is NOT ALLOWED.

Holiday Treats
No holiday is complete without some special treats though being a challenger can come with some dietary restrictions. The following treats provide buffs that are NOT ALLOWED:
Gingerbread Cookie
Fizzy Apple Cider
Honeyed Holiday Ham
Hot Apple Cider
Sparkling Apple Cider
Winter Veil Egg Nog
The Winter Veil Eggnog (no space) is a different item and is ALLOWED.

Holiday Gifts
The gifts Greatfater Winter leaves under the tree can be opened between December 25th and January 2nd. Just because you can open them does not mean you can use all of the items given to you. The following are items you are NOT ALLOWED to use:
Winter Veil Cookie
Mechanical Greench
Schematic: Snowmaster 9000 *Sidenote: While you are NOT ALLOWED to learn the schematic, all toys are ALLOWED to be used at the player’s risk. When in doubt, scout it out.
Formula: Enchant Weapon – Winter’s Might
Recipe: Elixir of Frost Power
Plans: Edge of Winter
Pattern: Green Holiday Shirt
Pattern: Gloves of the Greatfather

Cosmetics, Pets, & Toys
You are ALLOWED to obtain all of the pets and toys. Please remember that while you are allowed to acquire the pets you are NOT ALLOWED to partake in any pet battles. As far as cosmetic items are concerned please remember to follow your gear rules.

Tin Man
All of the event’s quests and daily quests are Allowed but there are a few things to make note of:

You are ALLOWED to catch Greatfather Winter in Highmountain. Doing so will award 500 Order Resources.

You are ALLOWED to take a sleigh ride around Ironforge or Orgrimmar.

At this time the new item A Tiny Winter Hat has yet to be added to the live servers. This item is NOT ALLOWED until we can test it if/when it gets implemented. We will update the status of this item at that time.

While you are ALLOWED to open your gifts from Greatfather Winter, that does not mean you can use everything you receive. You are NOT ALLOWED to use the following:
Mechanical Greench
Schematic: Snowmaster 9000 *Sidenote: While you are NOT ALLOWED to learn the schematic, all toys are ALLOWED to be used at the player’s risk. When in doubt, scout it out.

No holiday is complete without some special treats. Being a Tin has some advantages. One of those advantages allows you to have food buffs. The following treats provide buffs that are ALLOWED:
Gingerbread Cookie
Honeyed Holiday Ham
Hot Apple Cider
Sparkling Apple Cider
Winter Veil Cookie
Winter Veil Egg Nog
Winter Veil Eggnog

While the items listed above are okay the Fizzy Apple Cider is NOT ALLOWED.

You are ALLOWED to obtain the cosmetic items, toys, and pets but do remember to follow your gear rules, click off any buffs toys might give you, and no pet battles.

All of the event’s quests and daily quests are Allowed but there are a few things to make note of:

– The Elixir of the Rapid Mind which has a chance to be contained in the Savage Gift is NOT ALLOWED.

– Winter Veil Cookie

Schematic: Snowmaster 9000 *Sidenote: While you are NOT ALLOWED to learn the schematic, all toys are ALLOWED to be used at the player’s risk. When in doubt, scout it out.
Formula: Enchant Weapon – Winter’s Might
Recipe: Elixir of Frost Power
Plans: Edge of Winter
Pattern: Green Holiday Shirt
Pattern: Gloves of the Greatfather

The following festive items can be obtained during this event by /kissing a winter reveler once an hour and are ALLOWED. These revelers can be found in the inns:
Fresh Holly
Handful of Snowflakes
Mistletoe(see below)
The Mistletoe is the main item you need to be careful with here. When used on another player it places a spirit buff on them. It does not look like you can place this on yourself however should another player use this on you remove it immediately since the buff is NOT ALLOWED.

No holiday is complete without some special treats though being a challenger can come with some dietary restrictions. The following treats provide buffs that are NOT ALLOWED:
Gingerbread Cookie
Fizzy Apple Cider
Honeyed Holiday Ham
Hot Apple Cider
Sparkling Apple Cider
Winter Veil Egg Nog
The Winter Veil Eggnog (no space) is a different item and is ALLOWED.

You are ALLOWED to obtain the cosmetic items, toys, and pets but do remember to follow your gear rules, click off any buffs toys might give you, and no pet battles.

Blood Teams
This holiday revolves around quests that are NOT ALLOWED. All that mob grinding has landed you on Greatfather Winter’s naughty list.

Classic Iron
While we are still not able to track Classic Irons just yet, for those interested, the Feast of Winter Veil is running through January 2nd on classic servers. WoWHead has compiled a guide for the Classic version of the Feast of Winter Veil, which can be found here. Most of the quests look pretty straight forward and fairly similar if not the same as some of the quests available for the retail version of the event. If you are attempting any of the holiday quests on your Irons in Classic just remember to review the rough rule set we have on the site before getting started and when in doubt feel free to ask us for clarification.

Congratulations to Bluecollar, our first-ever Working Man Challenge Champion. Bluecollar is also the grand prize winner of our Winter’s Veil Helpers Working Man leveling contest. Yes, you read that correctly. Eexecute created Bluecollar for this contest and reached max level before the end of the two-week event! In fact, it only took Eexecute 11 days and 22 hours, a /played time of 5 days and 22 hours to achieve. This is also the first time we’ve had a contest entrant reach max level before the end of the contest.

When we asked Eexecute what brought him to try the Working Man Challenge he had this to say: “Working Man initially seemed to be a mishmash of the Iron and Paci challenges (though I’ve only attempted the former challenge). The Winter’s Veil Helpers event lined up very nicely with my IRL schedule, as my exams ended the day before the contest started.”

Eexecute felt the Working Man Challenge was considerably easier and faster than the Iron Man Challenge for a couple of reasons. “First: More gold. With Darkmoon Faire in town, I went straight thereupon leaving the Gnomeregan starting area, and gold came in hand over fist thanks to being able to fish up Darkmoon Daggermaw and Bloated Threshers, which was a huge difference from trying to sell greens on an Iron to make gold early. The remaining gold for the run came from gathering and selling the starting herbs/ore. Gold was not an issue on a working man, in stark contrast to my Irons that did not get 280% flying until around the mid-80s.”

“Second: More avenues of experience. I treated the challenge largely like an Iron, except my route was thrown out of whack due to the additional experience provided from gathering herb/mining nodes. This was no problem; I played the toon as an Iron until level 60, explored until level 65, gathered herbs using a Sky Golem mount (no need to dismount to gather herbs while using it) in the southwest corner of Sholazar Basin all the way to level 80, and did strictly Eastern Kingdoms Archaeology for the remaining 40 levels.”

“Finally: Trivial higher levels. Archaeology itself was both much safer and faster than a mob grinding method. Mathematically, you would gain (unrested) one level for every 22 dig sites until level 111, at which point you would gain one level for every 34 dig sites. With Archaeology capped at 225/225, no hostile mobs spawned while digging.”

When asked if he had any close calls with Bluecollar, Eexecute had this to say: “The big risks associated with dinging via Archaeology involve zone phasing: I phased into the WoD version of Blasted Lands after dinging 90, a stone’s throw from a group of level 90 elite mobs, and almost lost the toon on the spot. Be careful where you gain key levels.”

For those looking for advice, tips, or tricks in the hopes of having a smoother journey to max level, Eexecute brings some interesting thoughts to the table: “I specifically used a Monk for the challenge for a few reasons. Gnome was an available race so I, of course, had to pick it. Brewmaster is a relatively tanky spec if you know how to manage stagger, and DPS was not a real hassle because Brewmaster Monks pick up both Keg Smash and Blackout Strike very early. At higher levels, Zen Pilgrimage allows you to set your hearth at the northern end of Eastern Kingdoms (I used Aerie Peak in Hinterlands) because if you need to return to the southern end (ie: Stormwind) you can simply Zen Pilgrimage and use the portal. Zen Flight was not needed.”

As for what’s next for Eexecute: “The Winter’s Veil Helpers contest was a blast. I’ve still got a small army of cute little Iron Gnomes (Warrior, Mage, Warlock, Priest, Monk) I’m attempting to cap. Once patch 8.3 arrives, they’ll be joined by a pack of Vulpera.”

Once again congratulations to Bluecollar and Eexecute on becoming our first-ever Working Man Challenge Champion as well as our Winter’s Veil Helpers Working Man leveling contest winner!

Congratulations to Camachojr, our 11th Battle for Azeroth Iron Champion. This is the second time this Night Elf Hunter has reached the victor’s podium, previously doing so during the Legion expansion.

Camachojr’s journey to 120 took approximately 738 days. This feat consisted of 4,187 completed quests, 118 flight paths taken, 78 bandages, and hearthing 105 times.

Once again congratulations to Camachojr! Best of luck with your future challenge endeavors!
