Winter Veil

The halls have been decked, and garlands abound. The excitement is building all around. Great Father Winter will bring gifts that delight! We’ll feast and be merry and have snowball fights! We’ll gather together as we sit by the fire, regaling stories and sharing hot apple cider.

The Feast of Winter Veil has begun and will run through 6 AM on January 2nd. WoWHead has a full overview of the event which can be found here.

The following information is for the Iron Man Challenge. For information on the challenge variants please see below.

New for 2019
There are a couple of new things this year. One of those being A Tiny Winter Hat. This item is obtained by visiting the Smokeywoods Pastures cart in either Ironforge or Orgrimmar and clicking on Pepe. As of this moment, the item is not on the live servers but an official Blizzard post said it was new this year. Perhaps it will get hot fixed at some point during the event. At this time, this item has NOT been tested. If this item does get added in during the event, consider it NOT ALLOWED until we’ve had the chance to test it. Once tested we’ll update the post on the final answer.

Another new thing added in this year is sleigh rides around Ironforge and Orgrimmar. You can find the sleighs near where Greatfather Winter is located. It looks like you can ride in the sleigh or on one of the stags pulling it. No buffs are incurred and this is just a fun, silly holiday activity. This is ALLOWED.

Quests & Daily Quests
There are several quests and daily quests available during this event that you are allowed to complete. While you are allowed to complete them here are a few things to make note of:
– The quests Treats for Great-father Winter(H) and Treats for Greatfather Winter(A) involve cooking. You are NOT ALLOWED to learn cooking for this quest, however, you can buy the gingerbread cookies needed off the Auction House if any have been listed. The milk can be bought from vendors.
– The quests You’re a Mean One…(H) and You’re a Mean One…(A) involve retrieving Stolen Treats from The Abominable Greench. Once he has been slain the stolen goods spawn at the entrance of his cave. You do NOT need to kill the Greench in order to be able to snag the gifts when they spawn in. It is recommended that challengers keep a safe distance from this boss as there is a good chance he’ll one-shot your challenger. This quest may only be available to players level 60 and up as indicated by a post from Blizzard.

For challengers that have upgraded their garrisons to level 3 and are level 100 or higher, an additional 4 holiday daily quests will become available. These can be picked up in your garrisons from either Almie(A) or Pizzle(H).
– The quest Grumpus involves killing him and you must tag him to get credit. This quest may be too dangerous to bother with. When in doubt, scout it out.

Warlords Savage Gift
The Savage Gift is obtained from Izzy Hollyfizzle who is located in your level 3 garrison. The gift can be purchased for 5 Merry Supplies and may contain the following items:
Apexis Crystals
Oil
Garrison Resources
Elixir of the Rapid Mind (NOT ALLOWED)
Medallion of the Legion
Frozen Arms of a Hero
Minion of Grumpus

Catching Greatfather Winter
At Highmountain Peak in the Highmountain zone, you can find a Highmountain Tauren version of Greatfather Winter. At the top of every hour, he’ll spawn near Frosthoof Watch and travel down Hightmountain Peak in a sled being pulled by a couple of Winter Elderhorns. When you catch up with him, he’ll award you 500 Order Resources.

Festive Fun
The following festive items can be obtained during this event by /kissing a winter reveler once an hour. These revelers can be found in the inns:
Fresh Holly
Handful of Snowflakes
Mistletoe
The Mistletoe is the main item you need to be careful with here. When used on another player it places a spirit buff on them. It does not look like you can place this on yourself however should another player use this on you remove it immediately since the buff is NOT ALLOWED.

Classic Iron
While we are still not able to track Classic Irons just yet, for those interested, the Feast of Winter Veil is running through January 2nd on classic servers. WoWHead has compiled a guide for the Classic version of the Feast of Winter Veil, which can be found here. Most of the quests look pretty straight forward and fairly similar if not the same as some of the quests available for the retail version of the event. If you are attempting any of the holiday quests on your Irons in Classic just remember to review the rough rule set we have on the site before getting started and when in doubt feel free to ask us for clarification.

We made it through another year… or did we? The Feast of Winter Veil has arrived once again and will run from December 16, 2018, to January 2, 2019. You can find the full write-up from wowhead.com here: https://www.wowhead.com/feast-of-winter-veil-guide.

Quests
There are a number of daily quests that you’re allowed to do. Even the daily requiring you to loot the bag that drops after killing the Greench is okay. You can stand back and let others kill it as all you need to do is grab the bag… you do not need to tag the Greench. Please be warned though… a death is still a death and I’ve heard the Greench will one-shot Irons without a second thought.

Blood Thirsty Solo & Teams: Sorry, as usual, you feel the wrath of the Greench: all quests count against you.

Pacifists: We recommend you try quests out on a regular character and see if your Kills and Killing Blows get incremented.

Gear
There are many pieces of cosmetic gear that are obtainable: please be aware that any green or higher quality item equipped is not allowed. Yes, this includes the shirt and tabard slots. White-quality items are still okay but you should take care as some white-quality items have turned green (this will flag you).

Blood Thirsty Solo: Green cosmetic gear is okay for you!

Pacifists: It is okay for you to craft cosmetic items for auction house sales.

Green Man: Green gear is okay for you as well!

Toys
You are allowed to collect and use all the toys, however, you should be aware that equipping green, blue, or purple items will still red-flag you. There is a new toy this year called Toy Armor Set. This item is the 2018 holiday gift. When used it looks like it will equip an armor set made up of a Wooden Toy Helm and an Alliance or Horde Toy Cape, depending on your faction. These items may be green quality and have not been tested, use at your own risk.

Food
There is quite a bit of food available, so I’ll only list the items that stand out as NOT ALLOWED.

The Snowglobe, Mistletoe, Fresh Holly and Handful of Snowflakes
All these should be okay to use. We’re not aware of any buff that would normally flag your challenger. As always, if you’re not sure, do some testing on a regular character before using items on your challenger. Flags will not be reversed.

Catching Greatfather Winter
This is an allowed activity on all challengers and will award you 500 Class Order Hall resources. It is not yet clear whether this will count as a quest for Blood Thirsty challengers, so be cautious.

Warlords Savage Gift
The Savage Gift is obtained from Izzy Hollyfizzle, located in your garrison and might contain the Minion of Grumpus mount. It also contains Apexis Crystals, Oil, Garrison Resources, Frozen Arms of a Hero, Elixir of the Rapid Mind, Medallion of the Legion.

  • The Frozen Arms of a Hero is okay to use on your followers.
  • The Elixir of the Rapid Mind is NOT ALLOWED to be used for your Challenge characters. You are, however, allowed to auction it or send it to another non-Challenge character for faster leveling.
  • The Medallion of the Legion this is an item that grants you reputation. While you can unlock reps, the items that become available may not fall within the challenge rules.

Presents!!!!
We all know what we’re really excited about for Winter Veil, right? It’s the PRESENTS!!! All challengers, except for Blood Thirsty Solo & Teams, are allowed to open the gifts Greatfather Winter leaves you under the tree. The gifts are available December 25th through January 2nd. Please beware of the following items, as they are NOT ALLOWED for your Challenger.

As always, if you’re not sure or think the information here needs updating, please let me know. You can reach me on Twitter, the forums or by email.

This is an allowed activity on all challengers and will award you 500 Class Order Hall resources. It is not yet clear whether this will count as a quest for Blood Thirsty challengers, so be cautious.

Warlords Savage Gift
As we just mentioned the Savage Gift might contain the Minion of Grumpus mount.

Gear
There are several pieces of cosmetic gear and an epic dagger. Any item that is Green or higher quality is NOT ALLOWED, however, we specifically ignore the Shirt and Tabard slot: you are free to equip anything in these slots, including the green Gaudy Winter Veil Sweater.

White-quality items are all okay and include Socks, Green/Red Winter Clothes, Winter Boots, and also now includes (new to 2016) the Green and Red Holiday Outfit, except the hat as it is green and will get your challenger red-flagged.

It is OKAY to craft these items on a Pacifist (since professions are allowed) to sell on the auction house.

Food
There is quite a bit of food available, so I’ll only list the items that stand out as not allowed.

Presents!!!!
And we all know what we want for Winter Veil?? It’s the PRESENTS!!! Yes, you are allowed to open all the gifts from Greatfather Winter’s tree for your character. The gifts are available from December 25 through January 2. Please beware of the following items, as they are NOT ALLOWED for your Challenger.

As always, if you’re not sure or think the information here needs updating, please let me know. You can reach me on Twitter, the forums or by email.

headstone winter veilWinter Veil is once again upon us. WoWHead.com updated their Winter Veil guide earlier today so we can now go through and give you some concrete details on what you can and can’t do on your Challenge toon. The event runs starting today, December 16 2015 through January 2 2016.

Toys
You are allowed to collect and use all the toys except for the green Red Rider Air Rifle item that is equipped in your main hand. That can potentially red-flag you. There is a BB-Gun that is a Toy item that is allowed.

Mounts
There is a new mount that drops: Minion of Grumpus. You will spend 5 Merry Supplies (obtained from Garrison Dailies) to purchase a Savage Gift. The mount has a “very rare” chance to be found in the gift.

  • The Elixir of the Rapid Mind is NOT allowed to be used for your Challenge characters. You are, however, allowed to auction it or send it to another non-Challenge character for faster leveling.
  • The Medallion of the Legion…. not sure…. I would say No, however, this item is in a grey area currently as it’s a blue item that grants you reputation easily which unlocks other items for your character. I would say you should auction this off or send it to another non-Challenge character.

Gear
There are several pieces of cosmetic gear and an epic dagger. Any item that is Green or higher quality is NOT ALLOWED. There have been no exceptions made for hats or other cosmetic items for this event. Do not get your Challenger red-flagged because you mistakenly equipped the green Gaudy Winter Veil Sweater.

White-quality items are okay and include Socks, Green/Red Winter Clothes and Winter Boots.

It is OKAY to craft these items on a Pacifist (since professions are allowed) to sell on the auction house.
