The WoW Challenges community has a great, long-standing relationship with the WoW Community, helping us to get the word out and providing support when we’ve needed it. This past month has been no different as we were featured twice in the community.
Does the Heart Good
I recently joined Leila, Turwinkle and “Gollum” on the Does the Heart Good podcast, a show that high-lights the good that folks might do, not just in the WoW Community but overall. A podcast like this is great to have, especially in such an uncertain world where we are constantly bombarded with negativity. We focused on my efforts to raise money for the ALS Society of Canada, a non-profit organization that is very near and dear to my heart.
You can listen to the episode here. I’m really sorry for my performance against Gollum. Trivia really isn’t my thing.
You can follow the podcast on Twitter and SoundCloud.
PwnCast – Legendary Interview
I mentioned our relationship with the WoW Community, however, our relationship with PwnCast specifically is a very special one. They’ve helped us with announcements, had us guest on their show and supported us through our ALS fundraising drives. We back as many community-funded BlizzCon parties as we can, from Well Played to Con Before the Storm. This year we had the pleasure of backing PwnCast’s very first BlizzCon party: DitchCon!
I was truly honoured when Belle asked to interview me for PwnCast’s “Legendary” series. I know that I’m not at the same level as Venruki (their first guest) nor will be at the same level as their future guests but Belle was quick to point out that we do good in the community. As much as the interview was with me, it really is about us and what we all do and bring to the WoW Community. This one is for all of you. I can say ‘Thank You’ only so much; it really was a thrill and an honour to be a part of this.
You can read and watch the interview here.

This week Leeta and I sat down with Rho for Realm Maintenance episode 202. We discussed the evolution of the site, how the podcast came to be and also went into detail on our Adventures in Azeroth show. You can listen to the whole episode here: http://realm-maintenance.com/2016/08/02/episode-202-challengers-accepted/
We are under two days away from going live with our first episode of the WoW Challenges podcast. The podcast is going to be mainly anything to do with WoW news, site news, guests and round-table discussions revolving around the Iron Man, Blood Thirsty and Pacifist challenges.
We are going to be airing on Saturday August 29th at 7pm Eastern / Sunday August 30th at 9am Australian Eastern at http://ConnectCast.tv/Stone.
Please join us!
Last night I spoke with Leeta on Behind the Avatar. I’ve told her this before but when you look at the caliber of folks on her show, I am most definitely not worthy. You don’t even need to look very hard… merely have a look at who her guest was on Episode 91.
The first half is about me, yes, so you can skip that part and get right into the WoW Challenges portion for the really good stuff. Being on this podcast isn’t really about me, it’s about the effect that we have all had on the WoW community at large… while I won’t say we’ve been truly embraced by everyone, we have most definitely had an effect on a LOT of people. For them, I’d say this podcast was as much of a result of your work as it was mine.
Thank you Leeta & Behind the Avatar for aiding our cause! You can find us on Episode 92 at Behind the Avatar.
On Friday night, Aprillian & crew graciously hosted me on their podcast, all the while we played the Blood Thirsty challenge. This was my first attempt at the Blood Thirsty challenge and I found myself running from some over-powered mobs quite often. We talked all about the Iron Man challenge and the WoW Challenges site, basically what went into it… it’s history from wowironman.com, the veterans that kept things going and where we are now.
I was super nervous going in there as this was only my second podcast (see The Blue Recluse for my first one) and this show featured Rogueslayer, a veteran Iron Man challenger and Leeta, a newcomer to the challenge. The nervousness quickly went away as they all made me feel very comfortable… one of the reasons I like listening to the show.
I guess all of my yapping led to two things:
1 – a record long episode of Ctrl Alt WoW
2 – my guild wiping on Heroic Gruul while they were waiting for me to finish up…
SORRY for that… well… sort of… I really enjoyed my time there and want to thank Aprillian, Leeta, Rogueslayer, Vrishna, Marzana and Jeppy for letting me come on the show and being so supportive of the WoWChallenges site. I would do it again at a moment’s notice!
You can listen to Episode 424 now and see all the show notes here: http://ctrlaltwow.blogspot.ca/2015/06/ctrl-alt-wow-episode-424-we-dont-need.html
You can find Ctrl Alt WoW on Facebook (https://www.facebook.com/CtrlAltWoW) and Twitter (@CtrlAltWoW). You can also follow the hosts and co-hosts on twitter here… they’re good people!
On Sunday May 31, Belle used her Belle’s Bites (Bytes?) to talk about the WoW Challenges site. This is a huge deal to me as I’m a very big fan of the show. I can totally relate to the folks on there and really enjoy how they interact with each other (I still laugh at the whole Casual Belle thing… nice going Hots!). To me they feel like regular WoW gamers that are dealing with the same issues that you and I do.
Their episodes are not live (YET) but you can catch them airing on Sundays over at Pwncast.net. They also have a couple articles posted daily at PwnCastDailyQuest.com that you should also have a look at. Sure they may “only” be at Episode 58 now, but look past the numbers and look at what they bring and are trying to build with our community…. for me they are firmly entrenched as my must watch / listen shows each week.
On a personal note, even getting a *shot* at going on the show made me go fork out some dollars for a webcam and set all that stuff up. I honestly loathe the general public as I have a tough time relating to folks… but once I feel like I know you, it’s all good. Belle, Lycan, Frysa, Hots, Bloke and even the occasional Dark have a permanent place here at “Stone Central”… so much that I’d get over my own speech issues to go on their show at the drop of a hat…. well unless I’m in mid-raid… and as main tank I can’t really let my team down, now can I?
You can watch Episode 58 – Have You Iron-manned Today? right now!
You can also reach the hosts on twitter:
Belle – @belleofwarcraft
Lycan – @Lycan_PWNcast
Hots – @Hotsforshots
Bloke – @Mrgiant81
unfortunately I don’t know Frysa’s or Dark’s twitter handles, if anyone knows, please let me know so I can update this post!
This morning we hit 1,000 challengers and the credit goes out to all of you: the veterans, the podcasters, the WoW Community and all of our new challengers! I am just one person among you; I’m a guy that loves this challenge, and while I’m not a veteran, I am absolutely dedicated to the community that was, is and can be. Thank you so much to everyone for the support, it’s truly greatly appreciated! We were sitting around 150 or so challengers when the WoWChallenges.com site came online and we began actively pursuing help to “spread the word”.
At the time of this post we’re actually at 1,014 and is split up between all three challenges: 913 Irons, 37 Pacifists, 64 Blood Thirsties. I’ve broken down the stats on the Irons alone as there are not really enough Pacifists and Blood Thirsties to start breaking those ones down yet. We currently have 486 Irons ALIVE with 446 of those green-flagged. We’ve got 150 dead and another 277 lost to the nether (this means the challenge was attempted and then the character was deleted). Why do I count those that are dead or lost? We honour (Canadian spelling, eh!) everyone that attempts the challenge, successful or not.
I do have two new challenges I’m eventually going to introduce, I just need to work out the details. If you’ve been following my streams / episodes or know me, you’ll know which ones I’m talking about.
I’ve listed these folks out on the About Us page but I wanted to call it out here again since this is a huge milestone for us. If I have missed anyone, please don’t take it as a slight… I’m only one person and can’t be everywhere; if you’ve heard of us on a podcast that isn’t mentioned here or in the About Us section, please let me know immediately and I’ll add you!
This past week (end?), the WoW Challenges site and the Iron Man challenge were discussed on two new podcasts. Alt, of Alt:ernative Blog fame, spoke of the Iron Man challenge along with host Mick Montgomery on Episode 117. She outlined what the challenge truly is… another game within “THE GAME”. Bored of your Garrisons? Tired of mount farming? Try to complete the challenge! Please give the show a listen, they’re both good people and are great to listen to. I believe they have their episodes uploaded to Youtube as well.
You can follow both on Twitter: Mick @mickmontgomery and Alt @AlternativeChat.
This week our own Iron Man @Asyluun joined the folks from Girls Gone WoW to talk about the challenge. @Ottahz and Marie (@mbuhtz) both tried the challenge for research for the show. It was great to hear Asy’s voice for the first time and hear another podcast give the challenge a whirl. As they all discussed, this challenge is not for the faint of heart! You can hear the chatter in episode 178 and follow Girls Gone WoW on twitter @GGWShow.
I want to thank BOTH shows for helping us out by discussing the challenge and plugging the sites. If we can do anything, please let me know. I would gladly talk about the challenge (or pretty much anything else in WoW… I’m an avid mount collector and raider) on either of your shows.
On Episode 49 of the Meeting Stone, Mike and Bryan talked about the resurrection of the Iron Man challenge and the WoW Challenges site. Mike seems to have disqualified himself as a potential Iron Man challenger but I say that shouldn’t stop him from trying! You can catch the whole episode here http://themeetingstone.com/episode-49-assemble/.
You can follow Mike on Twitter at @MikeKassep and Bryan at @BryanTheMage. The show’s Twitter is @MeetingStoneSho. Give them a listen… they discuss all things Warcraft and Gaming… from Movies, Comics, TV, Video Games and more.
Thanks for talking about the Iron Man challenge and our new home here at WoWChallenges.com! Your support is very much appreciated!
Martin and Thom of The Blue Recluse podcast graciously gave me some time to chat about the Iron Man challenge and our WoW Challenges site. You can find the full podcast for Episode 51 here: http://thebluerecluse.eu/episode-51-wowchallenges-com/. It was fun to talk about the challenge on a real live podcast… this has sparked a little interest from myself to do the challenge on a PvP server! I put that challenge up to anyone… and no… you can’t realm transfer a toon over. :p
Please check out The Blue Recluse. They’re two great dudes that chat about pretty much anything Blizzard and sometimes spills over into other non-Blizz games.
For anyone listening… I stutter. Yep… I do. There are days where you won’t even notice it. Other days it’s tough to get a word out. Unfortunately this was one of those days… it could also have been from the excitement over meeting these two chaps. In anycase, try and muddle through my responses as best as you can. 🙂
