Congratulations to Ferrekessa on becoming our 39th Iron Man Challenge champion! Ferrekessa’s Iron Man journey took 687 days, 3 hours with a /played time of 8 days, 10 hours, and 31 minutes.
Ferrekessa is Ferre’s 3rd Iron champion and her 11th champion so far during the course of the Shadowlands expansion.
Ferre chose to play the Iron Man Challenge this time out due to having this character sitting around from when it was created during the Survival of the Fittest Iron Man contest. Might as well see the challenger through and see what happens with it, right?
Due to this character being created for the Survival of the Fittest contest, there were some race/class/spec restrictions to keep in mind. Night Elf was the race Ferre chose to go with, but her class/spec choice was predetermined to start out with. “Since it was a Survival Hunter challenge, she began life in Survival spec. However, she was never good at/interested in doing melee. So she did use a ranged weapon, even with very limited ranged skills. It was slow, and when the contest ended, she was level 32 and immediately switched to Beast Master spec and leveled the rest of the way in that spec.”
Ferre leveled Ferrekessa throughout multiple zones in Azeroth, Draenor, and Mists of Pandaria. When it came time to enter Shadowlands, she chose the world quest option from the mandatory Threads of Fate quest that everyone must do. After that, Ferrekessa settled in with the Night Fae covenant(Ferre’s favorite). She got to 60 by taking advantage of holiday events, a few quests out in Shadowlands she was comfortable doing, along with a handful of World Quests.
Did Ferre have any close calls while leveling? “Not really. I used a scout to test the waters for some of the bonus zones in SL but wasn’t confident about doing those on a live Iron Man. I’m going to try it on a Green Man.”
Ferre has the following advice for others trying out the Iron Man Challenge: “Level to 50 in zones you enjoy. I avoided going to Cata, Legion, and BfA zones because there was no need and I don’t particularly enjoy them. (I avoid BfA because I cannot fly there.) Make liberal use of scouts to try out quests or zones that you aren’t sure about for the particular class/spec you are working with.”
What’s next for Ferre? Will she be taking a break or will she be starting to work on another challenger? Ferre tells us that she’ll be working through a backlog of Working Man and Green Man challengers that had to be put on hold while those trackers were down. Plus, you never know what other Pacifist or Iron challengers she may have waiting in the wings.
Congratulations again on Ferrekessa becoming our 39th Shadowlands Iron champion and good luck with your other challengers!
