Congratulations to Ferrecridhe for reaching max level, making her the 10th Dragonflight Green Man Challenge champion. This is Ferre’s thirteenth Dragonflight Challenge Champion. She also has two Iron Man challengers, four Working Man challengers and six Pacifist – all max level Dragonflight Champions. Ferrecridhe’s journey was 273 days, 22 hrs, 23 min, 38 sec with a /played of 3 days, 15 hours and 55 minutes.
Why did you choose this challenge to play? Ferre said, “I’ve been working on Green Man challengers of various classes, wanting to see how they would do in the 60-70 range. This is the first one I’ve gotten to 70. People have asked about her name – Cridhe means ‘heart’ or ‘courage’ in Gaelic and when I created her, I wanted her appearance and activities to reflect the things I like best.”
What class/spec did Ferre choose to go with, and were there any specific reasons for that choice? “Ferrecridhe is a NE Balance Druid. Shadowmeld is critical, since Druids have pretty poor crowd control skills. I tend not to play Feral – if I want a melee playstyle, I’ll make a Rogue for it, (I do have a Guardian Druid leveling now, my first try at that- stay tuned).”
What path did you take to level, and were there specific reasons for those choices? Ferre said, “Ferrecridhe started during the current DF expansion, leveling as Balance, and trying to stay reasonably updated on green gear along the way. She took my typical path, doing early levels in Azuremyst/Bloodmyst, Elwynn Forest, and Loch Modan, then moving on to Felwood, and then to Northrend and Pandaria once she got flight ability. Unlike my Iron and Working Man Druids, she had no problems questing normally, including named mobs, almost all the way to 60. It got a little dicey around 58 (possibly needing a gear update that I was holding off on) so I had to pick and choose a bit more when it came to quest mobs. She went to Shadowlands at 60 (Threads of Fate) and did WQ’s, eventually focusing on those that gave bonus experience. At that point, holiday and event quests became very important – Midsummer Fires, Brewfest, Hallow’s End. She did not go to the Dragon Isles, since I hadn’t gotten any regular toons to 70 at that point, and my dragon riding skills are not safe for my challengers.”
Did you have any close calls while leveling this character? “She had a couple of close calls in Pandaria at 58-60, when I was realizing that killing things was becoming a lot harder than it had been. Fortunately, between her healing spells and at least one Shadowmeld event, she survived it,” Ferre mentioned.
Do you have any advice you would give to someone else thinking of trying out the Iron Man challenge? Ferre said, “Unless you’re trying to make it harder for yourself, keep your gear updated, especially weapons. When I play Green Mans, I go green in all slots, but green quality trinkets are hard to find or prohibitively expensive on the AH. The great thing now (with transmogging), you can buy whatever greens meet your stat needs and mog them to look better! Definitely shop for armor upgrades at Lvl 61 – crafters often sell their leveling wares on the AH for pretty reasonable prices. Oh, and be careful with quest rewards – don’t be too quick to equip them – so many of them turn out to be blue or purple!”
Are you working on any other challengers, or do you plan on taking a break for a while? “Ongoing Pacifists, Iron Mans, as well as Working Mans, Green Man challengers,” Ferre states.
Congratulations once again to Ferre on Ferrecridhe becoming our 10th Dragonflight Green Man Challenge Champion, and best of luck with your future challenge adventures.
