Congratulations to Ironpoxed for reaching max level and making them the 36th The War Within Iron Man Challenge champion. Ironpoxed’s journey was 2 days, 21 hrs, 25 mins, 3 sec with a /played of 1 day, 6 hrs, 5 mins, 51 secs.
Poxed said this is their your first max level challenger.
Why did you choose this challenge to play? Poxed said, “It really came about when Classic Hardcore servers became a thing. I was always interested in trying to level on those Classic servers, but did not enjoy the gameplay of Classic. Then I learned about the WoW Challenges site, and I was sold immediately because I could do it in Retail.”
What race/class/spec did you choose to go with and were there any specific reasons for that choice? “I chose a Human Paladin. I’ve always been a big fan of seeing a human run around in a fantasy setting, surviving against the odds when facing orcs, dragons, goblins, and other fantasy creatures. I chose Paladin because I enjoy sword & shield gameplay, and my previous attempt, (Prot Warrior), died at 69, so I chose Paladin to keep it fresh!” mentioned Poxed.
What path did you take to level and were there specific reasons for those choices? “I chose a modified version of a speed run guide I stumbled upon. I knew that I could go fast in the beginning, choosing Cata for the Chromie timeline and burning through most starting zones for each race. From there I stayed in the Eastern Kingdoms primarily and leveled through most of those zones until I hit 70. Once I hit 70, I played it a little safer and really just did side quests in each of the TWW zones, steering clear of any areas that I knew were trouble for me–so it forced me to slow down some.”
Did you have any close calls while leveling this character? Poxed said, “A few, yes! I forget what cave I was in, but I was a little overzealous and ventured in too deep, not keeping in mind that by the time I had to backtrack, that the mobs would’ve respawned. Thankfully I could bubble as a Paladin and zoom my way out of the cave before it was too late. We’ll just ignore the fact that I was at about 15% life with mobs still chasing me.”
Do you have any advice you would give to someone else thinking of trying out Iron Man challenge? “If you’re thinking about it, give in! The challenge was exactly that; a challenge. I had multiple attempts, (over several months), before I completed it with the Paladin. It was a very refreshing way to play the game that I’ve been playing since the end of WotLK. And enjoy the ride, the ups and the downs!”
Are you working on any other challengers or do you plan on taking a break for a while? Poxed mentioned, “I am! I main a Warlock, and really wanted to give that a go, so I am currently trying to complete the Green Man challenge. Ultimately, I would like to complete the Iron Man challenge with every class, but that’s a long term goal that I don’t plan on rushing into.”
Congratulations once again to Ironpoxed on becoming our 36th The War Within Iron Man champion, and best of luck with your future challenge adventures.
