Lunar Festival 2020

The druids have gathered and Moonglade is aglow. Those dressed as dragons are sure to delight, let’s honor our elders and put up a good fight. 2020 is the Year of the Rat so grab some cheese and settle in for this year’s fun is about to begin! This year’s Lunar Festival begins on January 24th and will wrap up on February 7th. For a complete overview of the event please feel free to review WoWHead.com’s guide.

New for 2020
There is a new quest chain available this year for those that want to make their flower crowns transmogable year-round. The Lunar Preservation quest chain is a bit involved. While you can pick up this quest chain at pre-flight levels, from what our testers are saying it will be extremely difficult without it. At some of the moonwell locations you’ll need to visit there could be some mobs you’ll need to deal with as well. Overall looks like a fun questline but perhaps not exactly challenger friendly and might be best left to your regular characters.

The following information is for the Iron Man Challenge. For information on the other challenge variants please see below.

Quests
All of the quests for this event are ALLOWED. That being said there are a few things to make note of:
– The quest Elune’s Blessing asks you to defeat the demon Omen. This is a dangerous endeavor for challengers and just because a quest is allowed does not always mean it is a good idea. You are NOT ALLOWED to group up with others to complete this quest. Based on comments on WoWHead you do not need to get kill credit to complete this quest. After he dies you can get close to or stand on his corpse and you should be able to get Elune’s Blessing to complete the quest. Once this quest is turned in you need to remove Elune’s Blessing ASAP!

– The Lunar Preservation questline may be better left to non-challenge characters.

Honor Thy Elders
Scattered throughout Azeroth you’ll come across elders of years gone by. You can honor them simply by talking to them. In return, you’ll receive a Lucky Red Envelope and a Coin of Ancestry along with some experience points. Remember that you may need to locate Zidormi and ask her to turn back time in order to interact with some elders depending on your level as some zones have phasing changes at key levels. This activity is ALLOWED. WoWHead has you covered with a list of Elder locations which you can find here.

Inside the Lucky Red Envelopes, you’ll find an Elder’s Moonstone or a Lucky Rocket Cluster. The Elder’s Moonstone has no bells or whistles and is ALLOWED. The Lucky Rocket Clusters are another matter. Setting these rockets off in the rocker cluster launchers will give you the Lunar Fortune buff which is NOT ALLOWED. Please be aware that if you are within 20 yards of someone setting this rocket off the buff will be applied to you. Should this happen it needs to be removed ASAP!

Cosmetics, Pets, & Toys
The Coins of Ancestry that you have received from the elders can be used to purchase items from the event’s vendors located in Moonglade. You are ALLOWED to obtain all of the pets and toys. Please remember that while you are allowed to acquire the pets you are NOT ALLOWED to participate in any pet battles. As far as cosmetic items are concerned please remember to follow your gear rules.

Festival Dumplings are also available from the vendors in Moonglade. This special treat will restore both health and mana and does not have any buffs so these are very challenger friendly. You will need Coins of Ancestry to purchase them.
