Congratulations to Bearferre for reaching max level, making her the 8th Dragonflight Working Man Challenge champion. This is Ferre’s eighteenth Dragonflight Challenge Champion. She also has three Iron Man challengers, four more Working Man challengers, eight Pacifist challengers and three Green Man challenger – all max level Dragonflight Champions. Bearferre’s journey was 179 days, 1 hrs, 47 min, 27 sec with a /played of 2 days, 18 hours and 22 minutes.
Why did you choose this challenge to play? Ferre said, “I really love the Working Man Challenge! It’s the best of both the Iron Man and Pacifist Challenges! I love quests AND professions. Since I was going to be playing a new-to-me spec, I wanted all the options!”
What class/spec did Ferre choose to go with, and were there any specific reasons for that choice? “Bearferre is just what her name sounds like she should be – a Guardian Bear Druid. It’s a spec I’ve never played before – not on challenge toons, not on regulars. And hearing so much about how well they can handle themselves in a fight, I wanted to try! She’s a NE Druid – I just don’t know the Horde zones and quests well enough to be comfortable, and wanted Shadowmeld as an option!”
What path did you take to level, and were there specific reasons for those choices? Ferre said, “Bearferre followed a somewhat different path than I typically use, especially in the earlier levels. Since I wanted to learn the Guardian spec, she concentrated more on combat quests and less on gathering than my Working Mans typically do. She spent some time questing on Bloodmyst Isle, Elwynn and Loch Modan, before moving to Kalimdor for quests in Feralas, Felwood and Winterspring. (However, she refused to do quests that involved killing bears!) Once she could fly, she went to Northrend, doing quests in Borean Tundra, Dragonblight and Howling Fjord as well as the Argent Tournament dailies. By her late 30s, she moved to Pandaria until hitting Level 60. She did a lot of Tiller’s dailies there, and broke her habit of not gathering much – the ore and herbs in the Valley of the Four Winds are just too tempting and the Ghost Iron sold well on the AH.
At Lvl 60 she did go to Shadowlands with Threads of Fate to open the WQ options. She also went to the Dragon Isles, doing some questing there – though not as much as I expected she might, (due to so many holidays clustered around the time of her last 10 levels.) She also did some cooking/fishing dailies in Darnassus, and of course the DMF.”
Did you have any close calls while leveling this character? “She got a scary reminder in Pandaria – using spells with an AOE component in high places with a lot of neutral mobs around is a bad plan. I didn’t think this through before attacking a Hozen for a Tiller’s daily quest. Thankfully, Shadowmeld saved her before any angry goats could toss her off the cliff! After that, I treated her target choices much like I would with a Frost Mage – don’t attack when there are packs of neutral mobs around and make sure to avoid any AOE! Especially on top of cliffs!”
Do you have any advice you would give to someone else thinking of trying out the Working Man challenge? Ferre said, “Make use of all available means of getting experience, depending on your level, zone, and class/spec. Gathering can get you past some levels when combat is difficult. And particularly before going to the Dragon Isles, be sure to update gear to the best you can find – often crafted gear for Lvl 61.”
Are you working on any other challengers, or do you plan on taking a break for a while? “Ongoing Iron Mans, Working Mans, Green Man and Pacifists challengers,” Ferre states.
Congratulations once again to Ferre on Bearferre becoming our 8th Dragonflight Working Man Challenge Champion, and best of luck with your future challenge adventures.
